Enable students to acquire skills, knowledge, and attitudes needed
to work as reporters or editors for newspapers, magazines, radios, television,
news agencies, and public relations offices; mass communication planners and
educators; and public and private sector information officers.

Equip students with the ability to understand and analyse the
social, political, cultural and economic role of journalism and mass
communication in the process of development within local, national,
continental, and international context and perspective.

Broaden and deepen students’ general knowledge.
BACHELOR OF ARTS (Journalism)
The
BA in Journalism programme has a practical emphasis; students are prepared to
think critically about the profession and society. The curriculum includes
coursework in media skills, mass communications, and general studies. General
studies dominate the beginning of the studies as an overall basis for
social-political orientation and for linguistic skills. Media practice becomes
more dominant and merges with theory related studies in thesis/project work.
Journalism students are responsible for all possible aspects of producing Tumaini Hill magazine, Tumaini Weekly and the Campus Eye newsletters, and more so
producing radio and television programmes. Journalism students also manage the Tumaini News blog online publication
During the third year of studies, each student specializes in one of the
following areas: Print Media, Electronic Media and Public relations and
Advertising.
